Approximately 40 people from Insulate Britain have blocked the M25 at J25 and the A501 at Old Street roundabout today. They are demanding that Boris gets on with the job of insulating Britain’s homes starting with the homes of the poorest people in the country.
The block on the M25 is in breach of the injunction granted to the Highways Agency on 22nd September.
This is the twelfth time that Insulate Britain has caused disruption on motorways and A roads as part of our campaign of civil resistance over the past four weeks. On Monday this week, the group blocked three major routes in the capital – the Blackwall Tunnel, Hanger Lane and Wandsworth Bridge. 54 People were arrested.
Liam Norton from Insulate Britain said:
“This isn’t a cause, this is about the deaths of our children before they get to grow old. This isn’t protesting, this is about doing whatever it takes to protect the future generations. And we want to be clear, this campaign will continue until the government gives us a meaningful statement we can trust, if that happens we will get off the roads like a shot.”
Tracey Mallagan from Insulate Britain said:
“If governments don’t act soon to reduce emissions, we face a terrifying situation. We won’t be worrying about shortages of pasta or loo rolls because law and order breaks down pretty quickly when there is not enough food to go round. The government won’t be wondering if there are enough hospital beds or ventilators, but whether there are enough people left to bury the dead.
“The government is destroying our country. Boris Johnson should be taken to court for treason. Our flesh and blood are being tossed aside as expendable.”
Steve Gower from Insulate Britain said:
Boris, it’s time to grow up and do what’s necessary. Insulating our homes is the most basic first step – it will get emissions down, create jobs and help families in fuel poverty, that’s real levelling up. The Government knows what needs to be done. Just get on with the job.”
