A family from Herefordshire were left frustrated when trying to book a Coronavirus test, after being told that their nearest test centre with availability was Leicester, over 75 miles away from their home and that they would have to wait a few days to be able to book one.
Their frustration was topped off when they were advised that there are no home testing kits available and that it could take several days for them to be available. The family wish to remain anonymous but say that they are all being forced to isolate due to Leicester not having spaces available for several days.
Matt Hancock told Sky News the reason many people have reported being unable to book a test is because the proportion of those asking for them who have no symptoms has risen to 25%.
“We have seen an increase in demand including from people who are not eligible for tests, people who don’t have symptoms,” he said on the Kay Burley programme.
“You are eligible for a test if you have symptoms of Coronavirus or if you have a very specific reason otherwise.
“We have seen an increase, and about 25% of people who are coming forward don’t have symptoms and aren’t eligible.”
