Members of the public are being warned to prepare for the conditions if venturing up the Brecon Beacons over the coming days.

Arctic air is spilling across the United Kingdom, with temperatures barely getting above freezing in places like Hereford and Brecon, let alone 800+ metres up on Pen y Fan.

The temperature towards the summit is more likely to be around -6c, even in the day, with bitterly cold winds expected to make it feel more like -10c.

The Brecon Beacons Mountain Rescue Team posted a photo of Pen y Fan on Facebook earlier, with a short piece of advice.

They said:

“This was today up on Pen y Fan. With the cold weather coming in make sure you are well prepared for the conditions! For some tips and hints, check out https://www.adventuresmart.uk/“
