Flood alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency on the River Wye, River Lugg and River Arrow in Herefordshire.
This follows heavy rain over the weekend, and snow melt.
Further heavy rain is forecast for today (Monday), with levels expected to peak on the River Wye in Hereford City on Tuesday.
Riverside paths are likely to flood and some roads may be affected by floodwater between Hay-on-Wye, through to Hereford and then onto Ross-on-Wye.
Flood Alert – River Wye in Herefordshire:
“As a result of recent rainfall & snowmelt. Consequently, flooding of roads & farmland is expected to begin this morning, 13/03/23.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land & roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine & Hereford.
“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.6m to 3.1m overnight 13/03/23, Bredwardine 4.6m to 5.1m overnight 13/03/23, Belmont 4.7m to 5.2m 14/03/23, Old Wye Bridge 4m to 4.5m 14/03/23, Mordiford 4.5m to 4.9m 14/03/23, Ross on Wye 3.5m to 4m 14/03/23
“Further rainfall is forecast overnight & on Monday.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next 5 days We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses & plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
“This message will be updated by 09:00 on 13/03/23, or as the situation changes.”
Flood Alert – River Lugg, South of Leominster:
“River levels are forecast to rise at the Lugwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible from early this morning, 13/03/2023.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford.
“Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.
“Further rainfall is forecast for Monday morning, 13/03/23.
“We expect river levels to remain high for about 5 days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. This message will be updated by 09:00 on 13/03/23, or as the situation changes.”
Flood Alert – River Arrow in Herefordshire:
“River levels have risen at the Titley Mill river gauge as a result of recent rainfall and snowmelt.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected to begin today.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Arrow from Michaelchurch to Brierley.
“Other areas that may be affected include Kington, Staunton and Eardisland. Further rainfall is forecast on Monday.
“We expect river levels to remain high for the next 5 days.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
“This message will be updated by 08:00 on 13/03/23, or as the situation changes.”
