Former Hereford United player Karl Goddard has sadly passed away aged 55.
Goddard was signed by then manager Colin Addison in the summer of 1990 from Bradford City, and he made his debut in a 1-0 defeat away at Chesterfield on the 8th September 1990.
The following week he scored the 4th goal in a superb 4-2 home win against Carlisle United.
Goddard received a nasty ACL injury in a 3-0 win against Burnley on the 13th October 1990 and was then out for the rest of the season. He described the injury as the worst moment of his career.
Goddard stayed at Edgar Street for the 1991/1992 campaign. A season which saw former manager John Sillett return to Edgar Street after Colin Addison departed to manage abroad.
Tragically injuries would cause Goddard to make only one football league appearance that campaign for The Bulls. A solitary substitute appearance against Walsall in a 3-0 defeat on the 21st September 1991 would be his only contribution to the league campaign that season.
He did though play a couple of Welsh Cup matches and scored a goal against Maesteg Park in a 2-1 defeat at Edgar Street,
He would be released at the end of the season and moved back up north to play non league with Bradford Park Avenue and later Emley. After retiring from football he became a builder.
Goddard passed away on the 25th June 2023 aged 55 and leaves three children.
