There is anger in the local community after Wellington Football Club saw vandals cause damage at the football ground over the weekend.

A post on the Wellington Football Club Facebook page said:

“We have been blessed in our village that vandalism has always been at a minimum.

“Mostly because of the football clubs community engagement with everyone who lives here. So it is with heavy heart and disappointment when we have to repair and replace our equipment due to mindlessness idiots.

“Last night we had some considerable damage done to  equipment at the ground.

“Our new set of goals were damage considerably and several other junior sets of goals and nets damaged.

“The time of this we guess was about Midnight to 3.00am on Saturday/Sunday morning.

“We really would like to know who has caused in the region of £800 stanchion damage and £300 net damage (at least).

“So they can explain how they think we can raise the money to replace the parts.

“The whole Friday was spent replacing worn out seating. Saturday was spent cleaning off the all weather surface for the kids to have floodlit training.

And today was spent repairing brainless, thoughtless damage so we can play our next scheduled game.

“If you can help identify these people there are a few of us would like to get acquainted so we can have the conversation. Really disappointed to have to post this.”
