Merthyr Town Football Club have strengthened their squad ahead of the final months of the season, with the addition of Cawley Cox from Westfields.
Cox has scored 21 goals for Westfields so far this season in all competitions and has turned down several approaches from clubs throughout the season, but the temptation of Merthyr Town, a club where he spent much of pre season, was too much.
Merthyr Town sit top of the Southern League Premier South, and Cox will be joining a side going all out for promotion to the National League.
Cox told Your Herefordshire:
“I’m looking forward to be back at Merthyr, building on what was a good pre season.
“Can’t wait to get back playing and see what the rest of the season holds!”
Speaking on bringing Cawley Cox to Penydarren Park (the home of Merthyr Town), Manager Paul Michael said:
“Cawley did really well in pre-season and he has gone out and done exactly what we asked of him by playing games regularly and continuing his scoring ratio, but after recent conversations it is evident we both feel it is time for Cawley to come into our environment and further his development.
“Cawley has so many great attributes, he’s tall, quick, has a great work ethic and is an excellent finisher, so I believe bringing him in now adds a bit of depth to the front line heading into our final 19 games of the season.
“I don’t need to say how well our current front three have done so far this season but we’ve been fortunate with injuries and availability in those positions, and it’s my job to safeguard us in case that changes with so many important games still to play.
“Cawley will also learn from being in with those boys who are proven at step 3 and we see this as a long term signing.”
