Ledbury Town will once again be looking to cause an upset when they host Hereford Pegasus in the Herefordshire FA County Challenge Cup this evening.

In truth, Ledbury are no strangers to upsets, with a thumping 6-0 victory over the then holders Hereford Lads Club just a couple of seasons ago.

The fixture, between Ledbury Town who have started well in the Herefordshire Premier Division and Hereford Pegasus, who are impressing in the Hellenic League Premier Division is expected to draw in a decent crowd to New Street this evening.

We caught up with Ledbury Town captain Joel Skyers to gauge his thoughts ahead of the big game.

YH: You host Hereford Pegasus (once again!) in the County Cup. How do you fancy your chances this time round?

“I feel we have a great chance in the game. Our recent form has been strong, with some good wins and decent performances, and it’s a one off cup game so anything can happen.”

YH: Hereford Pegasus have been free scoring this season, and have a strong attacking threat. Are you confident you can stop them?

“I’m always confident in our defence. We know we can compete with the best in the county. Keeping a clean sheet will give us a real chance so it’s motivation to be resolute. Our previous matches against them have been tight so we’re determined to get the result this time.”

YH: Ledbury sit in 3rd place in the Herefordshire Premier League this season. Do you believe you can achieve promotion?

“We dropped silly points earlier in the season but as long as we just keep going about our business and not worrying about other teams, we have a chance at promotion. We’ve still got to play all the top teams again so there’s still a long way to go.”

YH: Ledbury always seem to get good numbers at home games. Can they make a difference tomorrow?

“Since the new committee took over and the club re-opened after Covid, the club has grown. We have a great fan base who always turn up to support us, and I’m sure they’ll turn out again when we host Pegasus. We’d really love to see even more people come out to watch. It’s a welcoming club, good atmosphere and the football is entertaining.”

YH: Who would you say is your most important player?

“We have a strong squad, with some great players. It will be a massive boost to have Dean Lee back. We’ve also recently dual signed Ryan Dobbins, who is a real goal threat. He’s already scored four in two games! Jim Febery also is a stand out for us at the back.”

YH: Which young player in the Ledbury squad could you seen having a bright future in the game?

“The club and Ledbury Swifts have a great relationship now, which means we’ve been able to run an Under 18s team this season for the first time in more than 10 years. It means more junior players are moving across to Ledbury Town and getting their first taste of senior football. Macaulay Martin is a great young talent. He made his First Team debut against Kington last week and was superb. He could have the potential to go and make a great career for himself.”
