Hereford Lads Club will make the short journey to Edgar Street this evening for the Herefordshire FA County Challenge Cup Final, in the hope of beating Westfields FC and lifting the trophy.
Lads Club will be boosted after they received confirmation of promotion that will see them in the Hellenic League Premier Division next season, alongside tomorrow nights opponents Westfields.
Manager Danny Moon caught up with Your Herefordshire and shared his thoughts ahead of tonights big game.
Your Herefordshire: “It’s the County Cup Final – How are you and the squad approaching the game?”
Danny Moon: “It’s been very tough, with no game since December and then straight into a county cup semi final. We have trained very hard but replicating match fitness is not easy. We have found friendly games very hard to come by. We’ve played two games in 5 months, so it’s not ideal.”
Your Herefordshire: “It’s been a difficult stop start season, will this have affected your preparation for the game?”
Danny Moon: “It would be a great achievement for Lads Club to win the County Cup, it will show progression.”
Your Herefordshire: “With Westfields and Lads Club being in the same division next season, how big an indicator will this game be as to whether the current crop of players have the ability to hold their own in the league above?”
Danny Moon: “I think it will be another local derby and Westfields have been always top or near the top the last few seasons so it will be good for our boys to see what’s needed or where we are at.
Your Herefordshire: “Who do you see as Westfields biggest threat?”
Danny Moon: “Westfields have lots of threats and players who are fit and sharp, like we normally do. We will show them respect and worry about what we need to do in our chosen positions. The difference with playing a team in the league above will be the taking of chances. They will have the quality to take those chances if we make mistakes.”
The match will be watched by approximately 250 spectators at Edgar Street.
