It’s been a rather wet May so far, with heavy rain and showers throughout the month so far and the coming days look no different.

An area of low pressure will swing towards the United Kingdom overnight tonight and into tomorrow (Thursday, leading to heavy rain and strong winds, with gusts of wind of up to 40-50mph likely in exposed spots, which could be enough to bring down branches and some trees.

No major flooding is expected, with river levels remaining fairly low across the majority of Herefordshire, which is mainly thanks to the extra capacity that has been available following a relatively dry March and April.

The Met Office forecast for Herefordshire on Thursday:

“A dry start to the day but soon rain arrives from the west, heavy and persistent at times, and continues through into the night. Becoming windier. Maximum temperature 16 °C.”
