Hereford FC have paid tribute to a life long supporter who sadly passed away earlier today.
A statement on the clubs official website said:
Everyone at Edgar Street is deeply saddened by the news that life long supporter Melvin Powell of Peterchurch passed away earlier today.
Melvin and Joyce were long time supporters of Hereford United and Hereford FC and were part of the informal Tupsley Bulls fan group, travelling up and down the country in support of The Bulls.
Current Bulls player, James McQuilkin, who knew Melvin well from his previous spell at Edgar Street said: “I’m saddened to hear of Melvin’s passing. He was always so kind and friendly and would never be without a smile. He always had time for people and was deeply passionate about football. My thoughts are with Joyce and all the family during these sad times.”
Another former Hereford player to pay his respects was Rob Purdie: “It is such sad news to hear that Mel has passed away. He, along with Joyce, are what make the Hereford fan base so strong and welcoming. Not only are they there to support the club, but are also friendly faces that would always ask how the family are. He was more than just a football fan. My thoughts are with Joyce at this sad time.”
The thoughts of everyone at Edgar Street go to his wife Joyce, sons Elwyn and Gavin and their respective partners, Unyime and Ellie, as well as their friends and family at this difficult time.
