CAPTION: The winning Herefordshire squad, back row (left to right): Jane Powell (coach), Aimee Denton, Emily Kibble, Chloe Tingle (capt), Anusha Chauhan, Liv Kendrick, Samarhi Samadakoon, Georgie Williams, Lily Wood, Gareth Matthews (coach); front (L-R): Lottie Matthews, Libby Snowdon, Zara Collinson, Dani Williams.
SKIPPER Chloe Tingle led from the front as Herefordshire gained their first Vitality Blast Women’s League 3 Division 2 success with a six-wicket win over Lincolnshire at Bracebridge Heath.
After defeat in the day’s first match between the sides, Herefordshire’s prospects looked slim in the second match when Tingle came to the crease with the score at 40-6 and 87 still needed for victory.
But Tingle (32 not out) joined forces with first Samarhi Samadakoon (29) and then Lily Wood (22 not out) to see Herefordshire home with four balls to spare.
Earlier, Tingle (1-19), Wood (1-22) and Anusha Chauhan (1-12), whose four overs included a maiden, had picked up wickets as Lincolnshire were restricted to 126-4 from their 20 overs.
In the first match, Libby Snowdon (78) dominated the scoring, striking 12 fours from 56 balls, as Herefordshire reached 129-4 from their 20 overs with Aimee Denton (14 not out) being the only other player to reach double figures.
Then, despite good bowling from Dani Williams (2-19), Chauhan (2-30) and Wood (1-25), Lincolnshire cruised to a four-wicket win with more than two overs in hand.
Herefordshire cricket enthusiasts will finally get the chance to have a look at their new county women’s team on June 15 when, after four consecutive away trips, they will entertain Shropshire at Eastnor.
