Residents living on a new build housing estate on the outskirts of Hereford were left stunned on Friday evening, when many properties were flooded during a torrential downpour.

Almost a months worth of rain fell in just three hours, causing flooding across Herefordshire.

One of the areas affected was the Taylor Wimpey housing estate near Three Elms Road in Hereford.

Many properties were left damaged after flash flooding and mud swept into the estate.

Local residents took to social media with photos and videos, with many people from the local community sharing their views.

Helen-Paul Cato said:

“I’m afraid that’s one of the consequences of building on flood plains, that and poor management and maintenance of rivers and drainage systems.”

Chris Dainton added:

“This situation could be down to the drainage system being blocked from when the houses have been built.

“I have been out to many of new build sites along side the jet/vac tankers and camera teams and seen some of the crap that is left behind.

“Once the drainage system has had a thorough cleaning out they had no further issues.”

The Met Office has issued an Amber Weather Warning for parts of Herefordshire on Monday:

“An area of heavy rain is expected to develop across central and southern England during the early of hours of Monday, edging north and west and then becoming slow-moving somewhere across the warning area for several hours.

“It will then weaken and move away eastwards later Monday evening and overnight.

“Not all counties within the warning area will be equally affected, but it seems likely that some areas will see 60-80 mm and a few places may receive 100-120mm or more.

“This is likely to result in travel disruption and some flooding.

“Lightning may be an additional hazard in places.”
