Herefordshire and Worcestershire have been working to support local people to put in place a contract for a new provider in Herefordshire since last year when they took over the commissioning of dental services from NHS England.

NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire have appointed Central Hereford Dental Care as the new provider of NHS dental services in Hereford and they will operate two new practices in the city.

The first of two practices, Central Hereford Dental Care, will operate from premises on Commercial Street in Hereford, with a second practice located to the South of the River due to open late Summer 24.

A phone line will be established from 20 May 2024 for people to express their interest in accessing dental treatment.

Patients will be asked to provide their contact details and to answer some questions about their need for dental treatment.

Please do not attend the practice in person to make an appointment or register interest.

Appointments and registration of interest can only be made via telephone on 01432 652202 or 01432 652203, or use the online form on the website at: www.chdental.co.uk

Appointments will be offered based on clinical need and priority.

It is not a “first come first served” system.

This means that people who “express interest” once the practice has opened will be treated equally with people who “express interest” early.

Patients will be triaged according to need whether you use the phone line or the online form.

The provision of NHS Dental Services has been commissioned to provide long term access and we kindly request that people are patient when registering their details and looking to secure an appointment.

Central Hereford Dental Care hopes to start routine care in June.  The south site is anticipated to open later Summer 2024.

A spokesperson for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care Board said:

‘Since taking on commissioning for dental services from NHS England in 2023, we have been working to increase access to NHS dental services across the two counties. Earlier this year we announced that we had commissioned two new practices in Herefordshire. The first is set to open in the coming weeks, with a second location planned to open sometime over the summer.

While this is really good news for the Herefordshire, we know that we need to continue to improve access to NHS dental services across the two counties. However, this is a step in the right direction.

We ask that people are patient while the new practice gets established and understand that there may still be a wait for routine treatment while the practice builds its capacity.

People can add their names to the list for treatment from Monday (20 May 2024) and information on how to do this can be found on the ICS website at www.hwics.org.uk/ourservices/dental-services
