More than 100 homes remain without power in Herefordshire this morning following Storm Darragh.

National Grid teams have been working around the clock to restore supplies, with the majority of homes now with power.

An update from National Grid on Monday evening said:

As of 7pm (Monday), 33,735 homes and businesses are without electricity across South Wales, South West, and West Midlands regions.

Fallen trees due to the storm’s strong winds are the main cause of ongoing supply issues, causing difficulties accessing sites as well as damage to the network.

High volumes of calls are being taken by the contact centre and as a result it may take longer than normal for customers to get through.

Roisin Quinn, Field Operations Director, adds:

“Storm Darragh is the biggest storm our region has faced in decades.

“Our engineers, control rooms, contact centre and support teams have been working around the clock to maintain power across the network.

“We continue to see extremely high volumes of calls to our contact centre and I’m afraid it is taking a little longer for customers to get through. In addition to the contact centre, customers can reach us via social media and our website.

“I want to thank customers for their patience and understanding and assure you all that we are doing everything we can to get power restored across the region as soon as possible.”

Customers are reminded that compensation may be paid if you have been without power for 24/48 hours.

From National Grid:

We would like to apologise to all our Customers affected by the Storm and thank you for your continued patience whilst we restored supplies.

We will be making customer guarantee payments to customers who are eligible under the Standards of Performance Regulations. There is no requirement to make a claim.

We will be collating information about all the power outages experienced during the storm period. This will provide us with the information to assess eligibility for customer guarantee payments under the Standards of Performance. This normally takes 10 working days. However, this process may take longer during due to the impact of the storm and the number of customers affected. We would kindly request you check our website and social media for updates on this.

All eligible customers will receive a letter and a customer guarantee payment based on the eligibility criteria set out by the Standards of Performance.

For a category 1 storm the payment is £95 for power cuts lasting more than 24 hours (from time of notification) and £40 for each complete 6 hour period thereafter. For a category 2 storm the payment is £95 for power cuts lasting more than 48 hours (from time of notification) and £40 for each complete 6 hour period thereafter.
