Sainsbury’s has recalled a popular pack of pitted black olives after Listeria monocytogenes was found in the product.
The recall affects Inspired to Cook by Sainsbury’s Pitted Black Olives, sold in 120g packs.
Customers are being urged not to eat the olives if they have a use-by date of:
- 6 September 2026
- 7 September 2026
- 10 September 2026
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the recall notice on 4 September 2026, warning that the product may contain Listeria monocytogenes.
What is the risk?
Listeria infection can cause symptoms similar to flu, including a high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can become more serious and lead to complications including meningitis.
People considered particularly vulnerable to listeria include those aged over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies under one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
What should customers do?
Anyone who has bought the affected olives should not eat them.
Sainsbury’s is asking customers to return the product to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.
Point-of-sale notices are being displayed in stores selling the affected product to explain the recall.
