Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a three-month-old child in Great Wyrley.
Staffordshire Police said officers were called at around 8.45am on Saturday, September 5, after West Midlands Ambulance Service reported a child in cardiac arrest.
The child was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said four people were arrested at the scene as part of an ongoing investigation. They are:
- A 42-year-old man from south Staffordshire
- A 30-year-old woman from south Staffordshire
- A 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton
- An 18-year-old man from Walsall
All four have since been released on bail with conditions while enquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Josh Lee, from Staffordshire Police’s child protection team, said officers were “working around the clock” to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
He said the force was keeping “an open mind” at this early stage of the investigation and confirmed that the incident was being treated as isolated.
While all four suspects have been arrested on suspicion of murder, no charges have been announced.
Detective Inspector Lee also appealed to members of the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the death or share unconfirmed claims online.
He said police understood the incident had caused concern in the local community and urged people to follow Staffordshire Police for factual updates as the investigation progresses.
The investigation remains ongoing.
