Wye Valley NHS Trust is launching full time apprenticeships for people interested in a career in healthcare in Herefordshire, which provide opportunities to train as a healthcare support worker.
Successful applicants will begin their role as a healthcare assistant while undertaking Level 2 health and social care training. Once qualified there are further training opportunities available to Level 3 in health and social care moving on to Training Nurse Associate and Registered Nurse Degree. These provide a great stepping stone into a Nursing career.
The full time paid apprenticeships are available to applicants with or without previous health care experience, who would like a career in health care and are based in hospitals across the county.
Victoria Price, who joined the Trust six years ago as a health care support worker, said: “I began working at Leominster Community Hospital in 2015. My journey started as a healthcare assistant where I was able to complete a variety of competencies. An opportunity to complete further training to become an assistant practitioner became available and a more recent development where I have been successful to gain a place on the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RGN). I’m fortunate to have a great support system at Leominster Community Hospital, everyone works tremendously hard and motivates me to ensure I fulfil my dream to become an RGN. I’m really excited to finally commence my training in becoming a nurse and look forward to the challenges both practically and academically. The Trust has provided me with fantastic training opportunities over the years”.
Lynn Carpenter, lead nurse for practice development for Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We’re delighted to offer these exciting health care apprenticeships to people with and without previous care experience. We offer training in a range of skills and are proud of the culture within the Trust of “growing our own”. Being able to access training in our healthcare support worker and continue this through to becoming a registered nurse really is a fantastic opportunity.
“Applicants can be assured that they will be fully supported with their learning and will join a friendly team. We can offer an excellent career path, with support and development to learn this vital patient focussed role. You can benefit from earning a full time wage whilst gaining a qualification, and start your amazing journey within the NHS at our Trust in Herefordshire”.
There are no set entry requirements to become a healthcare support worker, but good literacy and numeracy skills are expected, if you are not in possession of a Maths or English GCSE or equivalent, the Trust will support you to undertake Maths and English Functional Skills.
