West Midlands Ambulance Service have heaped praise on an emergency medical technician from Hereford who’s quick actions probably saved the life of a man who suffered a cardiac arrest in Bartestree on Saturday evening.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service told Your Herefordshire:
“We were called at 10:08pm on Saturday to reports of a medical emergency at the junction of Longworth Lane and the A438 in Bartestree.
“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were dispatched to the scene. Crews arrived to find one of their colleagues, an off-duty ambulance Technician, already administering CPR to the man.
“Staff worked as a team to continue treatment for the patient at the scene and on route to hospital. Thank you to the off-duty Technician and members of the public for their quick thinking, performing excellent CPR and for assisting our crews at the scene.
“Their actions will have given this gentleman the best possible chance of survival. When our staff arrive at the scene of a cardiac arrest, there is nothing that can help them more than if bystanders have already started CPR, as this undoubtedly gives the patient the best chance of survival.
“We would urge everyone to learn how to do CPR as soon as possible, you never know when you might be required to try and save someone’s life.”
