We’ve been contacted by Kelly Patterson, a mother of two children from Hereford. Kelly has shared her concerns with us and is pleading for the local authority to close schools to curb a significant rise in COVID-19 cases across the county, particularly in the areas highlighted as on high alert by Herefordshire Council yesterday.
Kelly’s concerns come after a warning from Herefordshire Council that some parts of Hereford, especially the South Hereford area – Hinton, Hunderton, Lower Bullingham, Redhill, Belmont, Newton Farm and Saxon Gate are seeing a surge in new cases.
“My name is Kelly Patterson and I am the mother of two children and a local resident to the south side of Hereford.
“I speak for many parents and other local residents who wish for everyone’s safety and wellbeing when writing this letter.
Due to the case numbers rapidly increasing, we plead that something needs to be done and fast. This is not only for our children’s safety but for their parents and also other older/more vulnerable people.
“I believe that if the schools in the worst affected areas were to close for two weeks, this would have a dramatic change for the better. Not only would the teachers at these schools be a lot safer but so would the more vulnerable people.
“We have seen it happen once before, when everything was closed the case numbers decreased and we would like for this to happen again. We urgently need this to happen again and quickly!
“We want to do the right thing and help alleviate the strain that will be forced upon our NHS if this continues the way that it is. So please with great consideration for a better future, please consider closing the schools. Help protect not only our loved ones but your loved ones too!”
