Wales faces a further lockdown if COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise. Infection rates in parts of South Wales are some of the highest in Europe and First Minister Mark Drakeford yesterday announced a new four tier system that the Welsh Government hopes will slow the spread of the virus.

CURRENT COVID-19 INFECTION RATES IN SOUTH WALES IN COMPARISON TO HEREFORDSHIRE (DATA UP UNTIL 9TH DECEMBER):

HEREFORDSHIRE: Infection rate of 44.6 cases per 100,000 population

MERTHYR TYDFIL: Infection rate of 870.3 cases per 100,000 population

NEWPORT: Infection rate of 678.8 cases per 100,000 population

CARDIFF: Infection rate of 498 cases per 100,000 population

SWANSEA: Infection rate of 667.2 cases per 100,000 population

CARMARTHENSHIRE: Infection rate of 448.2 cases per 100,000 population

NEATH PORT TALBOT: Infection rate of 770.3 cases per 100,000 population

BRIDGEND: Infection rate of 698.4 cases per 100,000 population
