An appeal has been launched after a dog died after it was attacked in Malvern.

A post on the Malvern Information Group on Facebook said:

“Hi all. Reaching out for help and support from the Malvern community please.

“My Mum and our dog Laika were attacked by a dog on Tuesday evening in St Matthias churchyard.

“My Mum has got bite wounds to her hands and face and is currently in A&E. Our dog Laika was attacked so ferociously that she had her bowel perforated and has sadly had to be put down.

“As it was dark and so quick my Mum didn’t get the details of the male owner of the dog that attacked them.

“He looked to be in his 30s and was quite tall (Around 6 foot) and his dog was very large and had wired fur – my Mum states it looked like an Irish wolfhound.

“The police have been informed but obviously don’t have much to go on.

“If anyone knows of someone in the Malvern Link area who owns such a dog, it would be much appreciated if you got in touch/informed the police (or if the person involved is reading this – we appeal to your honesty – as your dog isn’t safe to be on the streets).

“The crime reference number is: 3557JAN2025. Attached is a photo of Laika who was the most lovely caring kind dog and who we are all going to miss very much.

“Update: My Mum Jan is having to stay in hospital for the next couple of days for surgical washout in theatre and IV antibiotics for her hand wounds.

“Please help us find the person/dog responsible for all of this.”
