In the early hours of this morning (Sunday 3 July) police were called to Great Oaty Gardens in the Warndon Villages area of Worcester following reports of a disturbance.

Two officers sustained injuries as they attempted to make an arrest. During the incident a man suffered a medical episode and was transferred to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A cordon is currently in place at the scene.

West Mercia Police has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), who will now carry out an independent investigation.  This is standard practice for incidents of this nature.  Due to the ongoing IOPC investigation it would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this stage, however, we will do so when we can.
