The M50 in Gloucestershire/Worcestershire is closed eastbound between J2 (Ledbury) & J1 (Tewkesbury) following a serious collision between two vehicles which occurred yesterday morning.

Sadly, one man died in the collision that involved two lorries.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“The eastbound carriageway between junctions one and two remains closed following a collision between two HGV lorries earlier today (29 February) 

“Sadly, we can confirm that a man has died in the collision, and our officers are still in attendance with our emergency services colleagues and partner agencies.

“We apologise to those who have been stuck in their vehicles since this morning and appreciate your patience. Our officers are doing their best to support those who are stuck in the traffic.”

All emergency services initially attended the scene. 

National Highways Traffic Officers also attended to assist with traffic management and turn vehicles around which were caught up within the closure. 

The road is expected to remain closed through the morning to facilitate clean up works and carriageway resurfacing.

Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the Solid Square diversion symbol on road signs

Exit the M50 northbound at J2 and turn right onto the A417.

Continue on the A417 until the roundabout with the A40, take the 1st exit onto the A40. 

Continue on the A40 until the M5 J11 and take the 1st exit onto the M5 northbound.
