The Foreign Office has issued important travel advice following blackouts that have affected large parts of Spain, Portugal and Andorra today (Monday).
As of 11.30pm Monday, huge areas of Spain and Portugal remain without power.
A state of emergency has been declared in Spain, with major cities such as Madrid and Barcelona affected. Lisbon and many cities in Portugal are also without power.
Transport and internet services have been affected, with no clear cause confirmed as yet.
The Foreign Office in the UK has issued the following small piece of information for those planning to travel to Spain, Portugal or Andorra:
“We are aware of reports of power outages across Andorra, mainland Spain and mainland Portugal and are monitoring the situation.
“There may be travel disruption, check with your tour operator or airline for more information before travelling.
“Follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local updates.”
Power has been restored to some parts of Spain, but it could take several hours for the whole country to have power restored.
