An irreplaceable Rothmans Champagne bottle, which had been taken in a burglary has been returned anonymously to Kington Cricket Club.

The bottle which was presented to Kington when they won the National Village Championship at Lords in 1993, was handed in to Paul Lewis Butchers in the town.

The Mid Wales Journal have reported that the bottle was left in a bag with the person saying to a customer: “Ask the butcher to return this to the cricket club’ before quickly leaving. Cricket club 1st team captain Duncan Morgan told the Journal “We are delighted that it’s been returned. Everything else that was taken, such as a television, a sound system, a projector, lots of spirits, chocolate bars and crisps, can be replaced.

“But what we could not replace was this bottle, it meant an awful lot to the club.”
