West Mercia Police have said that yesterday’s protest in Hereford was peaceful and that no significant disruption was caused to the wider community.

Approximately 150 protesters joined the protest in Hereford, with protesters first gathering at Cathedral Green before heading to the Bull in High Town and then onto Jesse Norman’s office on Broad Street.

Herefordshire Local Policing Commander, Superintendent Edd Williams, told Your Herefordshire: “On Wednesday a protest took place in Hereford. The protest passed peacefully without any significant disruption to the wider community.”

Several protesters took part in speeches with James McLelland telling the crowd that ‘the right to protest is one of the most important freedoms we have’.

The ‘Kill the Bill’ protest was organised due to the growing concerns that the Police & Crime Bill that is currently going through parliament could severely restrict the public’s right to peaceful protest.

The protest was very different to the scenes we have seen in Bristol recently and in other parts of the United Kingdom. It was peaceful with the organisers working hard throughout to ensure that all those attending remained calm and respectful of their surroundings.
