West Mercia Police have issued an appeal following reports of fake charity collectors knocking on doors in parts of Hereford.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:
“There have been reports of pairs going door to door identifying themselves as collecting money for charities such as Acorns Children’s Hospice and the World Wildlife Foundation.
“They may claim to represent these charities and wear attire that makes them look genuine.
“They have on occasion requested sensitive payment information and have photographed bank cards belonging to residents by request.
“It is important that such information is not given out as collectors would not be asking for such details and I could lead to money being taken out of your account without your knowledge.
“If you have any doubts about whether collectors are coming to your door are genuine, do not engage any further and close the door. Report it to us online or through 101.”
