West Mercia Police officers in Hereford have launched an investigation after a number of incidents where forged £50 notes were used in shops in a Herefordshire village.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police (Hereford Cops) said:

Good Evening,

“We have launched an investigation and are warning businesses to be on their guard after forged £50 notes have been used in the Credenhill area.

“The offender has made small purchases (under £10), payed with the forged note, and received legitimate change back.

“This particular note isn’t very good quality. As you can see in the photos, there are blemishes within the ink where the note is scratched. The hologram is a sticker and is not straight.

“We are working to identify the source of the fraudulent cash and are urging traders and shoppers to be vigilant and keep hold of any fraudulent notes, if possible, and contact the police.

“Traders should use whatever devices are at their disposal, such as ultraviolet light scanners, to ensure the authenticity of £50 Bank of Scotland notes and to closely check the security features on them.

“Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact us online, quoting incident number 00609_I_10112022
