Parking charges are set to return to normal in Herefordshire from Saturday when an incentive put in place by Herefordshire Council comes to an end.
The free parking incentive was introduced after Your Herefordshire and local businesses successfully campaigned for Herefordshire Council to review parking charges to support local businesses during the bounce back from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Footfall reports shared by Hereford Business Improvement District show that footfall in Hereford itself has bucked the trend compared to other cities across the United Kingdom and therefore there will be concerns that come Saturday, footfall could considerable drop due to the reintroduction of charges, combined with the mandatory wearing of face coverings that will come into place on Friday.
It was hoped that Herefordshire Council would slowly re-introduce the parking charges, perhaps with a new rate of charges in selected car parks, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. The Old Market will also follow suit with re-introducing parking charges due to an agreement that they have in place with Herefordshire Council which states that they have to have their charges in line with those in Maylord Shopping Centre.
