A mountain rescue team has rescued a male with a serious leg injury in a poor weather conditions near the Herefordshire border.

Longtown Mountain Rescue shared the following information on their Facebook page:

“Sunday evening saw the team called out by Gwent Police.

“A gentleman on a walking holiday with family near Llanthony Priory took a slip and suffered a serious leg injury.

“With the weather not looking very good the team were unable to request assistance from our local Coastguard Helicopter, so the team members carried the injured man down in a 4hr operation across steep and rough terrain to the road where he was handed over to the excellent Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust crew for further care and transport to hospital.

“Earlier in the week the team had been called out for for five other search and rescue operations.

“This month alone our Volunteers have given over 400hrs to assist members of the public as well as the hundreds of hours training, maintaining equipment and the general running of the team.

“You can find a summary of our callouts on our website.

“We provide information where available but we will always protect the identity of the people we assist, so some information is unavailable : https://www.longtownmrt.org.uk/callouts/

“We wish all out casualties over the past 10 days a swift recovery.”
