The Met Office has issued a danger to life ‘red warning’ for London, South East England, South Wales and parts of the South West of England as Storm Eunice hits the UK this morning.
The storm is approaching the UK at present, with strong winds already affecting the Republic of Ireland and South West approaches.
The Red Warning for South Wales and South West England says:
“Extremely strong west to southwesterly winds will develop over southwest England and south Wales early on Friday. Widespread inland gusts of 70-80 mph are likely and up to around 90 mph near some coasts, with dangerous conditions on beaches and seafronts. Winds are expected to ease from the west during the late morning.”

The main area of concern is that the storm is due to hit populated areas of the United Kingdom during daylight hours. Many local authorities have advised local residents to remain indoors, with the majority of schools in Wales and Southern England announcing that they will be closed for the day. Workplaces in some areas have been asked to allow staff members to work from home.
