Levels on the River Wye in Hereford peaked overnight with the river reaching nearly 4 metres at Old Bridge. A peak of 3.5 metres is expected at Ross-on-Wye in the next few hours.

Some riverside paths were underwater for a sort period of time, but with levels now slowly receding, these should be clear later today.

Further rainfall is likely on Sunday, but no significant flooding is expected on the Wye in Herefordshire at present.

An update from the Environment Agency this morning says:

“River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding is occurring. The river has peaked but we are expecting it to rise again to similar levels this afternoon. Peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.40m at 13:00 yesterday, Bredwardine 4.31m at 17:30, Belmont 4.4m last night, Old Wye Bridge 3.95m at 3am this morning , Mordiford 4.00m at 4am this morning Predicted peaks:- Ross on Wye 3.5m to 3.6m this morning 30/10. We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend with further rainfall expected. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated by 2pm this afternoon, 30/10/2021, or as the situation changes.”
