A spike in cases in two areas of Herefordshire are the reason why Herefordshire’s COVID-19 infection rate has risen slightly. Infections in the Fownhope and Ledbury areas have seen an increase over recent days. More details below.

Just one case of the COVID-19 variant first seen in India (Delta) has been recorded in Herefordshire in the seven days ending 29th May, data by Public Health England/Wellcome Sanger Institute confirmed today.

This data means that the variant first discovered in Kent remains the dominant variant in Herefordshire, with 86.7% of cases recorded in the week ending 29th May being this variant, with 13.3% of cases recorded in the week ending 29th May being the variant first discovered in India (Delta).

In data ending 2nd June, Herefordshire’s COVID-19 infection rate has risen slightly to 14.5 cases per 100,000 population, mainly due to an increase in cases in the following areas:

Fownhope, Tarrington & Marcle (11 new cases) – Infection rate of 160.3 cases per 100,000 population.

Ledbury (9 new cases) – Infection rate of 89.5 cases per 100,000 population.
