Pub owners across Herefordshire are still coming to terms with the fact that Herefordshire will face Tier 2 (High) COVID-19 restrictions from 2nd December, with many saying that it leaves them no option but to remain closed, or to face the prospect of losing even more money during what is normally the best time of year for business.
Neil Sexton from The Bay Horse Inn has been working hard with his team throughout lockdown to provide a delivery service, so that customers could still enjoy the delights of their fabulous menu, but he feels let down by the government and local MP Jesse Norman.
Neil said: “People can have their own view on whether pubs should be open or closed. However the big problem is pubs will lose more money operating under Tier 2 restrictions.
“The government have lied regarding grants and quoted figures for pubs with a rateable value of over 51k, of which there aren’t many. They say that the VAT reduction is a massive help when in fact if your takings are zero the reduction is zero.
“I wrote to Jesse Norman voicing my concerns and received a pre written reply and he has been absolutely useless with help or support.
“Finally while furlough is a good thing, if pubs and restaurants go bankrupt before Easter due to the non existent support they’re receiving there will be more people losing their jobs. Hospitality needs help now and an MP and government that understands!”
