Hereford FC have released the following update this morning on the return of football supporters to Edgar Street.

Following yesterday’s announcement that Herefordshire will be placed in Tier 2 of the government restrictions, we are excited by the prospect of a limited number of fans returning to Edgar Street in the near future.

Much work had already taken place ahead of the start of the season to ensure that spectators could return to Edgar Street safely, but additional discussions with the relevant authorities and a review of the latest guidance will now be undertaken as a matter of urgency.

As Rob Crawford explains in his programme notes for Saturday’s game, whilst the government guidance allows for up to 2,000 fans to return to Edgar Street, we anticipate that once we have implemented all social distancing requirements and satisfied the requests of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), that the final capacity will fall somewhat short of that.

Our primary concern is the safe return of supporters to Edgar Street, as well as ensuring the continued safety of players, staff and volunteers whilst attending matches at Edgar Street.

We also understand that some supporters may not feel ready to return to Edgar Street at this present time, and we’d like to reassure them that for as long as we are permitted, HFC TV will continue to provide the exceptional coverage of all home games.

We will provide further information shortly regarding the return of supporters, this will include specific information for season ticket holders and Executive Club Members.

It has been a long time since we have been allowed to welcome you to Edgar Street, and whilst it was already known before, lockdown has highlighted the fact even more, that football without fans is nothing.

Finally, please continue to follow government guidance, including maintaining social distancing, washing hands regularly and for 20 seconds, and wearing a mask where required.
