A free women’s self-defence course that is funded by West Mercia Police will be held in Leominster, it has been confirmed.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said:

“We are pleased to announce that Leominster Safer Neighbourhood Team have been granted a sum of monies from West Mercia Police, to enable us to provide a FREE self-defence course for women.

“The five session course will be held in partnership with Leominster Boxing Academy, under the instruction of Rick Parry. The aim of the sessions will be to provide women with basic self-defence skills and also breakaway skills. There will also be some input around the legislation for self-defence. The self-defence sessions will run every Saturday morning from 1030-noon, starting on March 26th 2022. 

“After these sessions end, we will then look to hold a further course comprising of five sessions (different participants) but on a weekday during school hours for those that have childcare concerns. We will confirm the date/time for those in the coming weeks. 

“To take part, you need to be over the age of 18 and able to take part in a physical activity. 

“Places are limited, so if you would like to book a place on either this first five sessions to be held on a Saturday, or for the next five sessions for a week day, please email me Pcso Steph Harper at leominster.snt@westmercia.police.uk ideally by 21st March 2022. Please specify which course you would like to attend. You will then be sent a disclaimer for taking part and an emergency contact sheet to be completed.
