Following the damage caused by Storm Bert, quick-thinking students from Tenbury High Ormiston Academy have raised over £800 to support their community.

Staff and students at the academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, have responded to the recent flooding in Tenbury Wells by hosting a fundraising event to help the community recover from the storm.

The local students have taken part in a mufti day to raise money for those affected by the floods, encouraging their peers to come to school in non-uniform and donate to a mini relief fund. Their efforts have raised a whopping £845 which will be donated to those in the local community who need it the most.

Speaking on her fundraising experience, one student Pippa said, “I live in Tenbury so really appreciate all the help from school”, with another student Stan saying, “I’m so glad we were able to raise so much money to help those who were flooded.”

The fundraising efforts follow the academy being used as a relief centre for the community and a planning base for the emergency services base during the storm, providing shelter for anyone who needed help and support.

Vicki Dean, Principal at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, said:

“Alongside our community, we were devastated to see the impact of the recent flooding on our local area and our staff and students wanted to do everything we can to help those who were most affected by the storm. We were really proud to see our students get stuck into fundraising for this important cause, and very pleased to share that this is the most we have raised as a school, demonstrating just how much our young people want to support our community.

“As an academy, we’re committed to helping our students understand the important role they play as citizens in their community, and their response to the recent storms is testament to this.”
