A flood alert remains in force on the River Wye in Herefordshire this morning, with levels set to peak at Ross-on-Wye this morning.

Levels peaked at 3.7 metres at Old Bridge (Hereford) overnight, with no major issues reported. The river level in Ross-on-Wye is currently 3.276 metres at 10am and expected to peak at around midday. No significant flooding is expected but some riverside paths may be blocked for a short time

The Environment Agency Flood Alert for the River Wye says:

“River levels have risen at the Ross on Wye river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall over the weekend. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected to continue today, Monday 7th February.

“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include the main A438 between Letton and Willersey, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.

“Hay on Wye peaked at 2.2m Sunday afternoon, Bredwardine peaked at 4.1m Sunday evening, Belmont peaked at 4.2m overnight, Old Wye Bridge peaked at 3.7m overnight, Mordiford peaked at 3.7m this morning. Ross on Wye predicted peak: 3.2m-3.4m this morning, Monday 7th February.

“We expect river levels to remain high for today. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated on Monday 07/02/2022 by 6pm, or as the situation changes.”
