The family of Christopher Simmonds, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of a collision near Keeper’s Pond, Abergavenny, have released the following tribute:
“On Friday morning our world was turned upside down when we were tragically informed that we had lost Chris.
“Soulmate and husband to Danielle, devoted dad to Ella, Alfie and Poppy, beloved son to Mike and Sandra, loyal brother to Mikey and Carly and best friend to Jon and Jamie.
“To know Chris is to love him, his calming and supportive nature was unwavering. Our world is forever a darker place without him.
“His tough exterior was a facade – he was a kind, gentle, generous man and loved his family with his whole heart.
“Chris’ infectious laughter and friendly smile had the ability to make people feel safe.
“He idolised his children and was either supporting Ella in kickboxing or stood on the side lines at the football cheering on Alfie or coaching his Poppy-Jean.
“Chris was most happiest in the garden listening to good music surrounded by his family – a simple man.
“We would like to thank the emergency services for their professionalism in managing the scene and the mountain rescue for assisting also.
“As we try to come to terms with this tragedy, we request that we are given the space and privacy needed to grieve as a family.”
Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The collision is believed to have occurred between 7.30am and 8am on Blaenavon Road, between Keeper’s Pond and Govilon on Friday 12 July.
