COVID-19 infection rates in two parts of Hereford city have risen significantly over recent days, with both areas recording infection rates above 400 cases per 100,000 population.

Infections in Hereford Central, which covers the majority of the city centre, including areas such as Edgar Street, Bath Street, Barrs Court Road and a section of Ledbury Road, have risen significantly, with a 200% increase in the seven day period ending 12th August, in comparison to the previous seven day period with 54 new cases recorded. The infection rate in Hereford Central for the seven day period ending 12th August was 536.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Infections in Hereford West, which covers the majority of the west of the city, including areas such as Westfaling Street, Barton Road, Holmer Street and a section of Whitecross Road, have also risen significantly, with a 60% increase in the seven day period ending 12th August, in comparison to the previous seven day period with 32 new cases recorded. The infection rate in Hereford West for the seven day period ending 12th August was 446.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The vaccine rollout continues to gather pace in the county with 87% of adults in Herefordshire having received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 76.2% of adults in the county having now received both doses of a vaccine.
