COVID-19 infection rates continue to rising in Herefordshire, with the county reporting a COVID-19 infection rate of above 400 cases per 100,000 population in the seven day period ending 20th September.

Causing the most concern is the sharp rise in cases in the South Wye area of Hereford city. Cases in this area have risen significantly over recent days and the Hereford South West (Newton Farm, Oval and Hunderton) area is now recording a COVID-19 infection rate of 1,160 cases per 100,000 population, the highest infection rate of the pandemic so far in Herefordshire. This area is closely followed by the Hereford South (Putson, Redhill and Holme Lacy Road) area where the COVID-19 infection rate has risen to 838 cases per 100,000 population.

Cases remain high in other areas of the county, including in Leominster, Hereford city and villages surrounding Herefordshire such as Clehonger, Moreton-on-Lugg and Much Birch.

87.1% of people aged 16 and over in Herefordshire have now received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 82% of the population aged 16 and over in the county have now received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The rise in infection rates comes as Kingstone High School was forced to close after a high number of cases affecting staff and students led to the school consulting Public Health England.

Kingstone High School’s Executive Headteacher David Bennett has provided an update on the current situation after the school took the decision to close after consultation with Public Health England due to a high number of COVID-19 cases.

COVID Firebreak Closure

Unfortunately, we have to announce the temporary move to remote learning at Kingstone High School, after discussion with Public Health England. This is due to the high and rising numbers of positive PCR tests that mean we can no longer deliver ‘in person’ teaching to an appropriate quality because of staffing constraints and the proportion of students not in school, affecting the continuity of provision.

All students will now need to study online, at home, from Thursday 23rd September to Friday 1st October inclusive (seven school days).

Students will return to face-to-face lessons on Monday 4th October.

Our Open Days are:
