Local female artist becomes multi award winning and internationally recognised.
Clare Donegan from Leominster was recently awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Art in the 2023 New Year’s Honours List and it is thought that Clare is the first female military artist ever to be formally recognised in this way.
Clare qualified from Falmouth College of Art in 1995 and has since become a multi award winning, internationally recognised military and animal portrait artist.
In particular, she has enjoyed remarkable success creating bespoke Rolls of Honour for our Armed Forces in the UK and other countries around the world. Each Roll of Honour depicts the current serving soldiers, officers and battle honours hand written in calligraphy with hand painted cap badges.
They vary in size from A3 right up to seven foot long and can include up to 900+ names. Each Roll of Honour is a bespoke piece of artwork which are commissioned to commemorate prestigious military events such as Centenaries, Tercentenaries, Jubilees and now the King’s Coronation, they take a couple of months to design and another month to do the original artwork.
Her Rolls of Honour are now becoming very important pieces of regimental military history in their own right and will be admired by generations of officers and soldiers to come.
She has also been fortunate enough to present many members of the Royal family her work over the years and expects a busy year ahead!
