The British Geological Survey site has confirmed that a small earthquake hit The Midlands overnight, with reports from across the area.

The main focus of the reports appears to be centred around the Walsall and Dudley areas.

The earthquake registered as 2.8 on the Richter scale and caused people to wake up from their sleep.

The British Geological Survey said:

“This event locates approximately 13 km east of the magnitude 4.7 ML Dudley earthquake which occurred on 22 September 2002 and was felt over most of England with maximum intensities of 5 EMS.”
