A police cordon was temporarily in place in Hereford on Sunday, after a World War Two hand grenade was discovered in the River Wye.

It was discovered by two teenagers who were fishing in the River Wye, near the Victoria Bridge in Hereford.

Alfie Rock, who discovered the hand grenade said:

“Me and my mate Zak Carroll were magnet fishing off the Victoria Bridge in hereford and upon lifting up our “last cast” we were amazed to find what we thought was a hand grenade!

“After taking the item to the field we left it in the bucket and immediately called the police.

“This then went on to be the bomb squad who then confirmed our find was an American WW2 Hand Grenade!

“They handled the situation and set it off on the Bishops Meadows. We are still both speechless of our find!”

The Police cordon was lifted shortly after the controlled explosion took place.
