A number of roads in Herefordshire are affected by flooding this afternoon, with levels peaking on the River Wye in Hereford, but river levels remaining very high on the River Lugg south of Leominster.

A number of roads near the River Lugg are closed due to flooding, with levels remaining high and likely to do so for a number of days.

Prone areas such as Marden and Moreton-on-Lugg have been affected by flooding, but fortunately the majority of roads and homes near the River Wye have avoided seeing any flooding.

Several Flood Alerts are in force across Herefordshire.

Flood Alert – River Wye – Herefordshire:

“River levels remain high at the Bredwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. 

“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. 

“Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.

“Updated predicted and actual peaks.

“Hay on Wye peaked at 2.12m on Tuesday evening, Bredwardine peaked at 4.02m early Wednesday morning, Belmont is predicted to peak between 4.0m to 4.1m on Wednesday morning, Old Wye Bridge is predicted to peak between 3.6m to 3.7m on Wednesday morning, Mordiford is predicted to peak between 3.9m to 4.1m on Wednesday morning, Ross on Wye is predicted to peak between 3.6m to 3.8m on Wednesday evening.

“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days. 

“We are closely monitoring the situation. 

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. 

“This message will be updated by 10:00, 14/12/23, or as the situation changes.”

Flood Alert – River Lugg – South of Leominster:

“River levels remain high at the Lugwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. 

“Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. 

“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford. 

“Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.

“We expect river levels to remain high for the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. 

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. 

“This message will be updated by 10:00am tomorrow, Thursday 14/12/23, or as the situation changes.”
