Emergency services are on scene, and the road is likely to remain closed until at least midday today whilst collision investigation works take place.
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol visible on local road signs.
At Air Balloon Roundabout take 1st exit A436 Stow in the Wold.
At Roundabout take 1st Exit A436 to Stow.
At 2nd Roundabout take 3rd Exit A436 to Stow.
At Traffic Lights Turn Right Oxford A40 Stow (A429).
At Roundabout take 3rd Exit A429 Cirencester.
At Traffic Lights continue straight ahead.
At Traffic Lights turn Right A419 Swindon, A429 Cirencester.
At Roundabout take 1st Exit Southbound M4 & A419 Swindon.
Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol visible on local road signs.
Leave A419 at Burford Road Interchange Exit slip.
At 1st Roundabout take 3rd Exit A429 Stow(over A419 to Roundabout).
At 2nd Roundabout take 2nd Exit A429 Stow.
At 1st set Traffic Lights Turn Left A429 Stow.
At 2nd set Traffic Lights continue straight on.
At Roundabout take 1st Exit A40 Cheltenham.
At Traffic Lights take left slip Lane turn Left A436 Gloucester (A417).
At Roundabout take 1st Exit M5 Gloucester A436.
At 2nd Roundabout take 2nd Exit M5 Gloucester A436.
At Air Balloon Roundabout rejoin A417

“Original- We’ve closed the #A417 following a serious collision in #Birdlip this evening (Wednesday 10 May).
“Emergency services were called shortly after 9pm with a report of a two vehicle collision just before the junction for Birdlip.
“A closure has been put into place between the Air Balloon roundabout and Nettleton Bottom while emergency services remain at the scene.
“This is expected to remain in place for a number of hours with motorists asked to plan their route in advance and avoid the area.
