A major route in Herefordshire remains closed westbound this morning with emergency services responding to an incident.

The incident occurred on the A40 between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. 

An update from National Highways said:

“The A40 in Herefordshire is closed westbound between B4164 (Whitchurch) and A466 (Monmouth) due to a vehicle fire.

“The closure is in place to facilitate the complex recovery of the vehicle.

“West Mercia Police are on scene.”

Road users are advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol on road signs

From the A40 turn onto the A4137 northbound.

Continue on the A4317, northbound to the A49/A4317 junction.

Turn left on to the A49 northbound.

Continue to the A49/A466 junction.

Turn left on to the A466 southbound.

Continue on the A466 to rejoin the A40.
