Public Health England data has shown that a further 25 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Herefordshire yesterday, taking the total number of cases confirmed in the county since the start of the pandemic to 7,015.

The increase in cases in Herefordshire comes as a surprise, with cases across the United Kingdom continuing to fall week on week.

The increase in cases also appears to be amongst age groups that are unlikely to have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far, with infection rates rising in those aged between 10 and 35.

However, yesterday’s increase in cases will be cases recorded over several days, so it’s much clearer to look at the specimen dates of the cases that have been recorded. If you look at cases recorded so far in April 2021, you can see that there is a trend that shows cases have increased as the month has progressed. Fortunately, hospitalisations remain low so there is plenty of reason to remain positive, with a number of these cases likely to be asymptomatic and picked up by an ever increasing number of lateral flow tests.
