Passengers face disruption this evening with Birmingham New Street expected to remain closed for several hours after a suspect package was found.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
“We’re currently responding to a report of a suspicious item on a platform at #NewStreet.
“The station has been evacuated as a precaution while the item is assessed.
“Thank you for your patience while we respond to this incident.”
The closure means that rail services between Birmingham and Hereford / Ledbury are suspended until further notice. Rail replacement bus travel is being sorted for some services but passengers have been advised to avoid the station area if possible.
